Since 2006, with 250+ wind masts making environmental and wind measurements in Greece, Africa and the Middle East...

Istos Renewables was founded in 2006 by young people who have been working for years in the field of Renewable Energy. Its legal form is Limited Liability Company.

Our main objective is to conduct certified wind potential measurements, study and assess wind potential with specialized software (WindSim), as well as to carry out measurements and evaluate the potential of other sources of renewable energy (solar energy, hydroelectrical energy).

We operate all over Greece, and abroad as well, having installed over 250 wind masts from 10m up to 80m and with supervision of 50 stations on average annually.

We provide the necessary equipment for environmental and wind potential measurements. Particular emphasis has been laid on the development of new products with high standards. Thus, all wind masts (tubular and lattice) have been developed and manufactured by our company.

As for measuring equipment, we have developed a PT-100 temperature sensor with sunshade, whose performance is equivalent to that of similar sensors of well-known brands.

Following the latest technological developments, we have acquired a LIDAR device for wind potential measurements and verification of vertical wind profile, while at the same time we are able to carry out the monitoring of other remote sensing devices.

In line with the latest developments in the field of photovoltaic systems, Istos Renewables takes advantage of its expertise so as to undertake the installation of solar energy measurement stations of high accuracy (class 1 according to …).

HISTORY

Arrow Right Arrow Left

2007

Right after its establishment, our laboratory obtained ISO-17025 accreditation in wind potential measurements.

2008

Istos Renewables started using the globally renowned WindSim CFD software.

2009

We acquired the special design of a contraction die, which allowed us to manufacture the first tubular masts (Ø130 and Ø152) up to 50m high.

2009

Participation with poster (Poster presentation) "WINDSIM CFD MODEL VALIDATION IN A MIXED COASTAL & MOUNTAINOUS REGION WITH COMPLEX TERRAIN" in the European Wind Energy Conference (EWEC) in Marseille.

2010

Our first lattice mast was successfully μελετήθηκε, designed and installed. Since then, more than 50 lattice masts of various designs have been installed.

2010

We acquired our first lidar ZephIR from Natural Power. Since then, we have an experience of over a decade with remote sensing wind measurements.

2010

Participation with poster (Poster presentation) "VALIDATION AND COMPARISON BETWEEN WINDSIM CFD AND LINEAR WASP MODEL PERFORMANCE IN VERTICAL PROFILE PREDICTION USING MEASUREMENTS FROM A 65M TALL MAST" in the European Wind Energy Conference (EWEC) in Warsaw.

2013

Participation in the EWEA (EWEA Technology Workshop: Resource Assessment) inter-laboratory wind resource and energy yield assessment exercise that was held on June 25-26 in Dublin. Our company successfully completed the exercise and sent its results for comparison with the actual wind farm energy yield, as well as the assessments of the other participants.

2015

Participation with poster (Poster presentation) "Thermal stratification and vertical wind profiles in complex terrain - Comparing the different performances of 2 CFD commercial platforms" in the International Wind Energy Conference in Istanbul.

2017

Installation of two 80m met masts and one-year wind potential measurements in Zambia.

2018

Installation of an 80m met mast in Armenia and in-depth study of icing phenomenon.

2018

Successful participation in the ‘Wind Europe’ international exhibition in Hamburg with a stand.

2018

Framework agreement with the globally renowned engineering consultants of Natural Power.

2019

Installation completion of seven (7) self-supporting masts manufactured by Carl-C for the “Kafireas” project of Enel Green Power.

2020

Completion of a measurement campaign with two (2) 82m lattice masts near Nairobi, Kenya.

about2

our team

The staff of Istos Renewables consists of well-trained scientists and engineers (graduates of universities and technical colleges).

The main goal of our company is the excellent cooperation among our staff members, so that management and employees work as a team with a common vision.

The scientific staff is trained regularly ιn quality, measurement and technical issues through participation in internal and external seminars (National Institute of Metrology, WindSim Norway, ELEMKO etc.).

We always emphasize on young people and throughout the years of the company operation we have hosted several undergraduate students for internships, who now work for large companies in the field of renewable energy.

INSTALLATION CREWS - EQUIPMENT

Istos Renewables owns two 4×4 pick-up vehicles specially designed for transporting masts to inaccessible places as well as a 3.5ton truck for transporting several masts and large loads.

The company also owns a hydraulic system for driving anchors into the ground with the ability also to certify their strength, which is mostly used for high lattice masts.

During the installation of met masts, the combined use of 2 theodolites allows the smallest possible deviation from the vertical.

The installation of each mast is carried out in accordance with the requirements of IEC-61400-12-1 and is certified by our authorized personnel.

The installation crews are equipped and trained to install masts at difficult sites of the Greek terrain.

Some of the specialized tools - equipment of our company are (among others):

Arrow Left Arrow Right

01

Torque wrenches and torque multipliers for bolts from M5 to M40 (for self-supporting masts). All recently calibrated.

02

Dynamometers and guy-wire tension meters (for tensioning of high masts guy-wires).

03

Ground resistance and soil resistivity meter.

04

Hand guy-wire winches, electric guy-wire winches.

05

Certified gin-poles.
