Icing is a phenomenon that is often encountered during the winter months in mountainous areas of Greece and elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>The recording and determination of the critical characteristics of the phenomenon are done based on the international standard ISO 12494 &#8220;Atmospheric Icing of Structures&#8221;. The physical quantities that can be logged, depending on the customer&#8217;s requirements, are:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Weight of ice buildup on standard cylinder \u03a630mm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Thickness of ice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Ice density.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Type of ice (rime or glaze).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Icing category (ICG1, ICG2, ICG3, ICR1, ICR2 etc).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"d-flex\">\n<div class=\"inline-block mr-3\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-617 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/istos-lab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ice1-e1648633378295.jpg?resize=274%2C184&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"184\" \/><br \/>\n<small>Rime ice reference picture<\/small><\/div>\n<div class=\"inline-block\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-618 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/istos-lab.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ice2.jpg?resize=274%2C184&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"184\" \/><br \/>\n<small>Glaze ice reference picture<\/small><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Respectively, based on the guidelines and reports from ELFORSK (Scandinavian Network of Wind Energy Industries) as well as from the IEA Wind (International Energy Agency), quantities can be determined that concern and supplement the wind measurements, giving useful information about the influence of icing to the energy production of the future wind farm, but also important information for estimating wind and ice loads. Load estimation serves to select and develop the most appropriate lattice mast model that can survive the extreme conditions of the site.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the following can be estimated:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Ice detection &amp; measuring devices (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/rwis.net\/res\/pdffiles\/IceMonitor_Product_Sheet.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Icemonitor<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vindteknikk.com\/products\/icetroll-ice-density-measurement-tool\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Icetroll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/labkotec.fi\/en\/product\/lid-3300ip-type-2-ice-detector\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Labkotec LID<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodrich.com\/cap\/systems\/sisdocuments\/Ice%20Detection%20and%20Protection%20Systems\/Ice%20Detector%20Model%200871LH.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goodrich<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Special cameras resistant to low temperature conditions (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mobotix.com\/en\/products\/outdoor-cameras\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mobotix<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vindteknikk.com\/products\/iceeyes-heated-cameras-for-harsh-environments\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IceEye<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211;
